Placemaking

More and more streets are closing to car traffic during the summer to make way for pedestrians on commercial arteries. A Play Street follows along the same lines, with a special focus on children's play in residential areas. Our mandate was to create the layout of the three specified zones from scratch. By favouring bright, saturated colours and emphasizing a high level of contrast with the grey of the asphalt, we could restrict the range of colours whilst achieving a lively effect that is sure to attract the attention of local residents. The play areas are integrated into the masses of colour to create a picture that may be abstract when seen from afar, but which takes on its full meaning once on site.
